Free Tax Preparation for Students, Faculty, Staff, and Community Members
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax help to individuals with low to moderate income (generally $67,000 or less), persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns. This service is completely free, and the volunteers assisting you are trained and certified by the IRS. Learn more about free tax return preparation.

Free Service
IRS-certified student volunteers provide completely free federal and state tax return preparation for eligible individuals.
Student Led
LMU students receive IRS certification and hands-on experience while serving the community.
Who Can Use Our Services?
Income Limit
Individuals and families earning a low to moderate income are eligible (generally $67,000 or less)
Students
LMU students of all income levels are welcome
Faculty & Staff
LMU employees who meet income requirements
Community
Local residents who qualify, including citizens without legal status with a valid ITIN
What to Bring
Identification
- Government-issued photo ID
- Social Security card or ITIN
- Birth dates for all family members
- For married couples filing jointly, both spouses must be present
Income Documents
- W-2 forms from all employers
- 1099 forms (interest, dividends, etc.)
- 1098-T (education expenses)
- 1095-A form (if applicable)
- Other income statements
Banking Info
- Bank account and routing number for direct deposit of refund
Additional Items
- Copy of last year's tax return
- Health insurance documentation
- Receipts for deductions and credits
- Childcare provider information

About LMU VITA
The LMU VITA Tax Clinic is run by the LMU Department of Accounting in collaboration with the LMU Accounting Society. Our mission is to provide high-quality, free tax preparation services to eligible members of the LMU community and local communities, while offering students valuable real-world experience.
All of our volunteer tax preparers are IRS-certified and supervised by experienced tax professionals. We take pride in delivering accurate, professional service while helping our community maximize their tax refunds and credits.
