Maya Barnes is a Communications major with minors in Health and Society and Digital Media, Industries, and Culture at Loyola Marymount University. She is passionate about exploring the intersection of public health and communication, particularly in uplifting underrepresented communities through storytelling and digital media.

On campus, Maya serves as a Resident Advisor in Desmond Hall, a Social Media Content Creator for the Communication Studies Department, and an active member of the Marians Service Organization. Her commitment to equity and global engagement deepened during her immersive SDG experience in South Africa in Summer 2025. She now continues this work as a student leader for an upcoming trip to Virginia, exploring the history of the slave trade and “glocal” advocacy.

Through media, events, and collaborative projects, Maya strives to contribute to the global effort toward promoting human rights, reducing inequalities, and building sustainable communities.
