John Petrie, Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering

John Petrie is an assistant professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Prior to joining LMU, he was a Senior Hydraulic Engineer at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District.

Professor Petrie is a registered Professional Engineer with expertise in flow and sediment dynamics in rivers, hydraulic modeling, and water resources engineering. His recent work focuses on ecosystem restoration and flood risk management in urban environments. His contributions to teaching and scholarship have been recognized including receiving the Leon Luck Faculty Award for the Most Effective Professor from the CEE Department at Washington State. Professor Petrie earned a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
