"How to Succeed in the Korean Market"

May 3, 2019
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce

The US - Korea Free Trade Agreement, also known as KORUS FTA, effective since March 2012, represents one of the most comprehensive and up-to-date bilateral free trade agreements that the U.S. has ever signed. Overall, KORUS FTA has been mutually beneficial for both countries, not only from an economic perspective but also from strategic engagement with one of our most critical allies in the Asia-Pacific region. However, the Trump Administration’s growing concern about the U.S.’s widening trade deficit with Korea led to the renegotiation and conclusion of the KORUS FTA 2.0 in September 2018. Revisions to the KORUS FTA are expected to materialize larger economic potential for the Korean market to increased American exports and job creation. Although these aspirations are confirmed by the modified agreement, tangible outcomes are still to be determined.

This half-day conference, held on May 3, 2019 during the 93rd Annual World Trade Week, provided a great venue to learn about export and investment opportunities in Korea, the 6th largest trading partner for both our nation and the State of California. We welcomed American exporters and investors to Korea, and small and medium-sized companies in particular, who are seriously considering introducing their products and services to the global market.
