This powerful film is about a high school freshman named Nick (Twilight Saga’s Boo Boo Stewart). It encompasses tragedy and triumph and viewers watch as Nick faces neglect and adversity due to his Asperger’s syndrome and a catastrophe that ultimately challenges the strength of his entire family. Many themes in this compelling movie portray a message of understanding and acceptance for API, LGBT and Asperger’s. Ultimately, viewers are left in awe by this influential plot on the power of family, friendship, and love.

“HIBAKUSHA” is an animated documentary/drama featuring Kaz Suyeishi, a 57 year old Japanese woman, who recalls her most vivid and horrific experiences as a 17 year old Hiroshima student during the morning of August 6, 1945 when the atomic bomb dropped on her hometown.

A young Japanese-American girl struggles with discovering her identity, heritage, and the loss of her connection to her past in the context of the Japanese-American Internment of World War II.

MEMOIRS:
Based on a true story about the writer/director's grandfather: A veteran of the US Air Force befriends a Japanese woman in a writing class and after realizing he bombed her hometown, killing her family in WWII, he chooses to tell her the truth, potentially sacrificing their friendship.

"Chink" (2013)
“Chink” captures the struggles of an Asian American man named Eddy Tsai who, as a minority, must confront his ethnic identity in America. After many years of being called names like “chink” and “gook,” and being ridiculed for his Asian features and alleged martial arts skills, the main character begins to form an intense self-hatred and strives to emulate his idol Ted Bundy- eventually becoming a serial killer himself. Viewers are brought into Eddy’s world to watch as he challenges gender, relationships, and identity head on.
This movie screening presents a special guest panel with director Stanley Yung, producer Quentin Lee, and actress Eugenia Yuan.

"Masquerade" (2012)
This historical film is about King Gwanghae, a tyrannical ruler in Korea who is under constant threat of assassination. In an attempt to save his life, he orders his trusted councilor Heo Kyun to find a royal body double. Ultimately, it is a peasant named Ha-seon, who bears the perfect resemblance of the terrified King and takes his place. When King Gwanghae collapses from a mysterious poison, Ha-seon reluctantly becomes a King. Viewers follow the crucial choices Ha-seon must make to save his country from collapse, avoid assassination, and watch the biggest masquerade in history.
