The Studio: A Night of Short Films
A collection of short films by LMU film student Monish Prakash and LMU film alums Vishal Munsif and Jensen Vinca were screened followed by a discussion with the filmmakers.
The Girl With the Bluest Eyes (2018)
'The Girl With The Bluest Eyes' is about Noah who was swept off the streets as a child by a middle-aged man named Eli. He provided the child with food, clothes, and shelter, and pimped him out to clients, who later grew up to become a male prostitute. When he witnesses Eli bringing in Emma, a young homeless girl, he must overcome his fear and own psychological captivity in order to save her from experiencing the same fate.
Whispers in the Dark (2019)
'Whispers in the Dark' is about Logan who is an overworked 24-year-old schizophrenic barista. One of his many responsibilities is taking care of his 78-year-old grandmother, who is also his only family. When insurance lapses unexpectedly, his psychosis is once again triggered as a result of not being able to afford medication for himself. Unable to seek help from anyone around him, his hallucinations push him further out of reality until he commits the unthinkable.
Saptapadi (The 7 Steps) (2017)
Saptapadi is the most important rite of a Hindu marriage ceremony. On her wedding day, Anika thinks about the good and bad times she's been through with the love of her life, and he does seem to possess the qualities of a good husband. So why does it seem like she's not ready? This film won the Best Romance Diamond Award and was the official selection for the Seattle Asian American Film Festival, Asian Film Festival of Dallas, and Best Directing in Short Films – Jakarta, Indonesia.
L.A. Liquor (2017)
A year after the Los Angeles riots of 1992, Miles, a young African American male, has an eventful night in a liquor store owned by a racist Korean couple.
