Lion Cub Fund

The Lion Cub Fund allows students to gain real-world experience by making investments in public companies. Open to all LMU students; first- and second-year students are highly encouraged to get involved. Available roles for students include:

Senior Leader: Senior leaders are typically students in their junior and senior years. Each senior leader will have a group of analysts they oversee and are in charge of scheduling weekly meetings, monitoring progress of asynchronous training materials, and helping to decide the best ideas from their investment team. There is an application process for senior leaders.

Analyst: To receive CBA Advantage credit, each analyst will have to complete four asynchronous modules, attend 80% of their weekly group meetings, and prepare two mini-pitch sheets for the semester. The main role of the analyst is to provide potential investment ideas to their group. The group (led by the senior leader) will be responsible for making two pitches each semester.

Students will be expected to complete five asynchronous modules:

  • Module 1: Equity screening
  • Module 2: Simple company research and industry research
  • Module 3: Basic valuation using multiples and determining a catalyst
  • Module 4: Monitoring investment ideas and portfolio tracking within Bloomberg
  • Module 5: Storytelling, how to pitch an investment, and the mini-pitch sheet
