Comprehensive. Versatile. Dynamic.

The LMU Master in Entertainment Leadership and Management curriculum provides students with the foundations necessary for working in the business of entertainment. Your capstone project is an opportunity to leverage our university's connections with the entertainment industry for mentorship as you gain hands-on experience.

Our program can be completed in 12 months on a full-time basis or 24 months on a part-time basis for a total of 30 units.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the LMU Master in Entertainment Leadership and Management will:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the functional areas of business, such as finance and accounting, marketing and organizational behavior, as well as the capacity to synthesize and apply this functional knowledge.
  • Be able to demonstrate the capacity to provide ethically-informed solutions to complex business and entertainment case studies and effectively collaborate with others as a group.
  • Be able to explain the societal benefits of entertainment toward justice across environmental, economic, and social factors (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, income class, etc.).
  • Comprehend the different roles in the movie industry and be conversant with industry terminology.
  • Be able to take an idea through the production process from inception and development to packaging and pitching, budgeting, marketing, staffing, selling and release with an understanding of intellectual property and contracts.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

All Master in Entertainment Leadership and Management students complete the following core courses split between the College of Business Administration and the School of Film and Television:

  • Introduction to Creative & Entertainment Industries
  • Entertainment Business Affairs
  • Management & Organizational Behavior
  • Marketing Management
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Master Producing

* With program director approval, students may waive up to 2 core courses based on previous coursework. Any waived courses must be substituted with electives in equal credit amount.

Students will select 3 electives based on their desired area of focus. Electives offered include courses from the College of Business Administration MBA Program and graduate courses from the School of Film and Television. This gives students the ability to choose electives from a vast array of disciplines, focusing their coursework on their career interests and talents. Elective options cover the areas of entrepreneurship, project development, finance, film/tv production, marketing and general management.

All students participate in a summer capstone project in a small team, choosing to focus on either a new piece of content, a new venture or consulting. 

Capstone Option 1: Entrepreneurial Producer

Students will gain experience conceptualizing, planning, pitching, developing, launching and marketing an individual piece of content or entertainment venture.

Capstone Option 2: Entertainment Strategies

Students will work with an entertainment organization as consultants to solve a key business problem.
