Scholarships Available for Summer Study in Korea

The Center for Asian Business is pleased to offer multiple summer scholarships to visit the amazing Asian country of South Korea. All LMU second and third year students who have not previously visited Korea should consider this opportunity to learn about an ancient Asian culture and how it has become the United States' 7th largest trading partner. Recipients will be living with host families and visiting important cultural sites as well as meeting Korean students, professors and business leaders. Sogang University, LMU's sister Jesuit university in Seoul, will coordinate the activities of our scholarship students.

The scholarships, which began in 2006, have helped send 18 students to Korea to date.

All full-time LMU second and third year undergraduate students who have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above and have not previously visited Korea are eligible to apply for the scholarships. Applicants will be required to demonstrate these qualifications and submit a qualifying essay.

Successful applicants will receive partial roundtrip airfare. Accommodations, some meals and travel arrangements in-country will be paid. Students will need health insurance and money for some meals. A coordinator from Sogang University will supervise the program in Korea.

In their applications, students will write an essay (500 words) explaining their reasons why they wish to participate in the program and what they will be looking for. Students should submit their essay, resume and unofficial transcripts to the Center for Asian Business. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the student’s qualifying application, including the essay, GPA and interview by the Selection Committee.

Applications are to be submitted by April 19, 2013 and the recipients will be announced in May.
