Accounting Students Recognized at Annual Banquet

The LMU Accounting Society held its annual Spring Awards Banquet at the Marina del Rey Marriott Hotel on the evening of Thursday, April 18. Following a cocktail reception and dinner, accounting students were recognized by faculty and awarded scholarships from some of the top accounting firms in Los Angeles, including Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Moss Adams, Green Hasson Janks and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Fifty-six scholarships were awarded to 44 accounting majors totaling $195,000. The scholarships were provided by 27 donors, including the Big Four accounting firms, seven mid-sized accounting firms, CPA Review Courses, the Accounting Department, Professor Emeritus John Garstka, alumni endowed scholarship funds such as the R. Chad Dreier Scholarship Fund, Dick Poladian Fund, the Provencio Family Endowed Fund, Stephen and Judy Page Endowed Scholarship Fund, and various other funds.

Professor Nancy Coster was awarded Accounting Professor of Year (for the second time in three years) and Professor Alan Falcon was honored for his 34 years of service at LMU. The 2013 Alumnus of the Year Award went to Ron Valenta ’80. The recipients of the Leadership & Service Awards were Arielle Nomura and Lauren Faber. Accounting Excellence Awards were given to Alexandra Peters, Jillian Jaccard, Neil Roeckel, Greg Innes, Alison Clarizio, Shelby Jones, Matthias Froehlich, Soo (Fiona) Kim, Lauren Faber and Rachel Horrigan.
