  • Program Overview

    The Master of Science in Accounting program provides an opportunity for students with an undergraduate degree in accounting to complete their accounting education in a high quality program that will enhance their future professional growth opportunities. The program equips students with the necessary advanced knowledge and skills to be productive and ethical accounting professionals and leaders.

    The Master of Science in Accounting is a 30-unit program designed for:

    • Students who are enrolled in, or have completed, an undergraduate degree in accounting and wish to enter a master's program that will comply with the 150-hour California requirement for CPA licensure
    • Students who have not completed an undergraduate degree in accounting, but have met the prerequisites for accounting and business courses

    Admission Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree
    • GMAT/GRE scores (TOEFL scores are required for international students)
    • A minimum of 24 units (semester hours) of accounting subjects, including intermediate accounting, advanced accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, cost accounting and taxation
    • A minimum of 24 units in business-related subjects, including 6 units of business law
    • A minimum of 7 units of ethics study; may be completed at LMU (Students who have not completed a course in professional responsibilities must also take ACCT 6150: Accounting Ethics, Professionalism, and the Public Interest)

  • Curriculum

    Required Core Classes (15 semester hours)

    • ACCT 6110: Financial Reporting - Standard Setting Process and Financial Accounting Theory
    • ACCT 6120: Taxes and Business Strategy
    • ACCT 6130: Accounting Information, Analysis and Evaluation
    • ACCT 6150: Accounting Ethics, Professionalism and the Public Interest*
    • ACCT 6170: Professional Accounting Research

    *LMU accounting students will waive this course (it is currently offered as ACCT 4150 in the undergraduate accounting program). As a result, LMU accounting students must take an additional 3 units of electives.

    Accounting and Taxation Electives (9 semester hours)

    Electives may include: Fraud Examination, Financial Statement Analysis, Valuation, Advanced Accounting Information Systems, Current Issues in Accounting, Accounting Internship, Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders, Taxation of Flow-Through Entities, State and Local Taxation, International Taxation, Estate and Gift Taxation and Planning, and Tax Internship

    Business Electives (6 semester hours)

    Students may select (with permission) any College of Business Administration graduate-level courses beyond the MBA core courses.
