Areas of Expertise
Professor Hess has a rich background of Sales, Research, and Planning experience
with the General Electric Company and the Xerox Corporation. He is Active as Director of the Small Business Institute and at LMU where he directs College of Business Administration students through internships, opportunity assessments, business plans and field studies.
Professor Hess is active in several community service organizations. He is Director of WorkNet, which assists unemployed executives. He is co-founder of Global Business Incubation (GBI), a member of the Pacific Incubator Network (PIN), Beta Gamma Sigma, national honor society, and a member of the American Southern California Education and Economic Development council. He was Chairman of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Religious Education Presidents Advisory Board. He was also President of the Religious Education Board at Our Lady Queen of Angeles Parish.
Publications
Professor Hess's U.S. Army Financial Management Plan was used as a reference document by all U.S. Army Finance Officers in the late 1950's. His Management Guidelines publication was used by Catholic Religious Education boards across the United States in the 1970's. His Guide to Market Research for the Computer Software and Services Industry published by ADAPSO was used by the information technology industry in the 1980's. His publications include papers and presentations on entrepreneurship and small business management, in conjunction with his role as Director of the Small Business Institute at LMU.
Research Interests
Professor Hess is interested in the development of the LMU Stewardship Institute, which will include an Internship Program, and a Virtual Incubator Program for LMU students.
